the chinese characters say: prajna paramita hrdaya sutra
the writings in the background (devanagari script) say: "gate gate paragate parasamgate bodhi svaha", which more or less means: "gone gone, gone beyond, gone altogether beyond (to reach enlightenment), O what an awakening, all hail!"
the writings in roman alphabet (rupam sunyata sunyataiva rupam....) is some passage from the sutra itself. it more or less means: "Oh, Sariputra, Form (rupam) does not differ from the void (sunyata), and the void does not differ from form.
Form is void and void is form; The Same is true for feelings,
perceptions, volitions and consciousness."
